On 4-5 February 2017, the Hong Kong Golf Club and the Hong Kong Ultra Marathon Association (香港超級馬拉松協會, HKUMA) will jointly host the “2017 Hong Kong Golf Club Charity Ultra Marathon cum World Record Breaking of 24-hour running distance by Hong Kong Spirit Team”. This community-spirited event will achieve the first-ever cross-sector collaboration between golf and ultra marathon to raise funds for the Hong Kong Single Parents Association. This is Hong Kong’s first-ever 100km ultra marathon race to be staged at a golf course and will be recognised by the International Association of Ultrarunners (IAU) and the Association of International Marathon and Distant Races (AIMS). The results from this race will play a role in determining the section of Hong Kong representative runners at the IAU World Championships and Asian Championships.
In the Hong Kong Sports Institute in May 2016, the Hong Kong Spirit Team created a brand new and serious World Record for Hong Kong, with a team of 10 completed the longest running distance of 1,875.8 km in 24 hours. In this Inaugural Hong Kong Golf Club Charity Ultra Marathon, the Hong Kong Spirit Team is going to reach a new height and break this World Record.
The Founder of the Hong Kong Emergency Medicine Centre and the Executive Member of HKUMA, Dr. Szeto King Ho, has taken the lead in donating HK$100,000 to support the charity cause. As a member of the Executive Council of the Hong Kong Single Parents Association, Ms. Nancy Sit Ka Yin (薛家燕) also urged for support to the event.
