This vision of our initiative is to make no difference to all, no matter mentally handicapped or blind runners. Those people should enjoy running as freely as the ordinary. Everyone is equal to sports.
Therefore, our missions that we should help runners by offering special training and race opportunities and securing enough founding by sponsorship for those underprivileged runners in order making no burden to their families.
Our objectives, first is to secure adequate sponsorship for providing couching fee and full uniforms including running shoes, transportation, food and drinks, which benefits 80 to 100 runners annually. The second objective is to organize at least 2 races in different levels for wide ranges of handicapped runners, which are half marathon and 3 hrs 6 mens team relay. The third objective is to annually organize at least 4 official training with coaches and on-going running sessions every two to four weeks.
In past 12 months, Est. HKD 300, 000 cash equal to 10% of our race budget is allocated for CSR purpose. In addition to that HKD 300, 000 value goods and services were sponsored, including 100 pairs of running shoes, 100 suits of full uniforms, accommodation, transportation and food and drinks. The total amount of CSR budget are HKD 600,000. Those who sponsors are Skeckers, National Arts Hotel, Hong Kong Government (Home Affair Department) Foshan Xiqiao Government, Tian Yuan Bakery, Watsons, Decathlon and Dr. Szeto giving medical aid.
Before the two event being held, press conferences were called and media were invited to special training workshop. Apart from that, we also arranged interviews for signature runners to promote the running event. On the race day, over 60 media were present and witnessed the event. After that, TV channels, radio, newspapers, relevant websites such as Xinhua Net, Renmin Net and social media such as Facebook, Weibo reported the events. Especially, Guangdong Sports Channel made an 1-hour special program about the Xiqiao blind runners half marathon. Also, major newspapers published the event on front page.

80 mentally-handicapped runners are given 2 special training at Kwai Fong Sports Ground between July and August, 2015 by professional coach Mr. K.K.Chan.
Sponsor visit to Hong Chi Special School in August and Pentecostal Church Sheltered Workshop in September benefited 30 mentally-handicapped runners respectively.
On September 26, 2015, 3hrs 6mens team relay – mentally handicapped category are held, 5 teams, totally 30 runners participated.
On Jun 6, 2016, Blind runner half marathon, which is China’s first marathon specially for blind runners. 7 blind runners with their own support runners took part in the event. In order to create safe and comfortable running environment, running route, food and drinks were specially designed and arranged.
In addition to that, experiences such as sightseeing and baking workshop were also provided for blind runners pre and post half marathon event.
We are actively working with five mentally-handicapped organizations in Hong Kong, leading role of which is Hong Kong Hong Chi Special School. Similarly, there are 10 blind organizations and 10 marathon club in Mainland China being worked with Guangzhou Blind Association. Over 1000 persons are benefit from the activities being held.
In addition to the event, those blind runners provided massage service on half marathon race Day Jun 26, 2016 as return. Over 400 marathon runners enjoyed their post race massage service.
Both in Hong Kong and in mainland of China, hundreds of underprivileged runners are given help from our activities. We also receive positive social responses after media reporting, which definitely help promoting and raising sponsorship. Now, we are preparing for national blind runners’ half marathon on March, 2017, the budget of which cost at least RMB 1 million. We are now recruiting more support runners (est.200 paxs) as blind runners’ partners and expecting more than 3000 spectators to attend the blind runners’ half marathon next year.
All the spectators and media involved are passionate with blind marathon event. We hope that the event can encourage more underprivileged runners to join marathon running. Some of charity-minded MMC are willing to sponsor blind runner teams to take part in more marathon races. Overseas races are also considered.
